Gabapentin Indications

Postherpetic Neuralgia: Neurontin is indicated for the management of postherpetic neuralgia in adults.

Epilepsy: Neurontin is indicated as adjunctive therapy in the treatment of partial seizures with and without secondary generalization in patients over 12 years of age with epilepsy. Neurontin is also indicated as adjunctive therapy in the treatment of partial seizures in pediatric patients age 3 – 12 years.

How do I take Gabapentin ?

Take this medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Follow all directions on your prescription label. Do not take this medicine in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended.

The Horizant brand of Generic Neurontin should not be taken during the day. For best results, take Horizant with food at about 5:00 in the evening.

Both Gralise and Horizant should be taken with food. Neurontin can be taken with or without food. If you break a Neurontin tablet and take one half of it, take the other half at your next dose. Any tablet that has been broken should be used as soon as possible or within a few days.

Gabapentin Side Effects

In addition to its needed effects, some unwanted effects may occure. In the event that any of these side effects do occur, they may require medical attention.

Most Common Side Effects:

  • Clumsiness or unsteadiness
  • continuous, uncontrolled, back-and-forth, or rolling eye movements
  • Blurred vision
  • cold or flu-like symptoms
  • delusions

Less Common Side Effects:

  • Black, tarry stools
  • chest pain
  • chills
  • cough
  • depression, irritability, or other mood or mental changes
